Third District Iloilo

Third District of the Province of Iloilo: The third congressional district of the Province of Iloilo is composed of the following municipalities: Badiangan, Bingawan, Cabatuan, Calinog, Janiuay, Lambunao, Maasin, Mina, and Pototan. It has been represented in the House of Representatives of the Philippines since 1916 and earlier in the Philippine Assembly from 1907 to 1916.

Municipality of Badiangan

Badiangan is a fourth-class municipality in the province of Iloilo. In a 2020 census, it has a population of 27,056 people. Thirty-nine kilometers from Iloilo City, Badiangan is politically subdivided into 31 barangays. One notable destination in Badiangan is the Ephrathah Farm, a 14-hectare property in Brgy. Sariri highlighting agriculture, entrepreneurship, and tourism.

Municipality of Bingawan

Bingawan is a fifth-class municipality in the province of Iloilo. In a 2020 census, it has a population of 16,164 people. It is 73 kilometers (45 miles) from Iloilo City. Bingawan is politically subdivided into 14 barangays. Event highlights include the annual religious fiesta in honor of St. Paul’s Conversion, held every 25th of January, and Bingawan Foundation Day (Pagnahi-an) Festival, held every 21st day of June.

Municipality of Cabatuan

Cabatuan is a second-class municipality in the province of Iloilo. In a 2020 census, it has a population of 61,110 people. It is politically subdivided into 68 barangays, 11 of which are poblacion barangays. The town is mainly agricultural land abundant in rice, corn, sweet potato, taro, and cassava. Moreover, sugar cane, coffee, coconut, and tropical fruits and vegetables are also abundant in certain areas. Cabatuan is part of the Metro-Iloilo Guimaras area and houses the Iloilo International Airport, connecting Iloilo to various destinations nationally and internationally.

Tourism highlights include the San Nicolas de Tolentino Church, Town Hall, Pamul-ogan Hill, Baluarte Shrine, and the Tree of Bondage. One notable activity is the Tinuom Festival, a celebration of the town’s history and its ‘tinuom’ dish made of native chicken soup with tomatoes, onions, garlic, ginger, and lemongrass, and wrapped in banana leaves.

Municipality of Calinog

Calinog is a first-class municipality in the province of Iloilo. In a 2020 census, it has a population of 62,853 people. Politically, it is subdivided into 59 barangays, four of which are in the población area. Event highlights in the town include the Hirinugyaw-Suguidanonay, a festival coined from the Visayan term ‘jubilation’ and is celebrated in honor of the Child Jesus, similar to the Dinagyang Festival in Iloilo City.

Municipality of Janiuay

Janiuay is a first-class municipality in the province of Iloilo. In a 2020 census, it has a population of 66,786 people. Politically, it is subdivided into 60 barangays. Popular landmarks and tourism destinations include the Janiuay Catholic Church, Janiuay Cemetery, Old Prison and Town Hall, Pilot Elementary School, National Vocational School, Protestant Church, Iglesia ni Cristo Church, Public Market, Cattle Market, Don Juan Wuthrich Estate, Don Jose Marin Estate, Lutero Estate, Locsin Estate, Camarista House, Suage River Breakwater, Quipot Wier, and Bararison Falls to mention a few.

Municipality of Lambunao

Lambunao is a first-class municipality in the province of Iloilo and is the largest in terms of land area. In a 2020 census, it has a population of 81,236 people. Politically, it is subdivided into 73 barangays

Municipality of Maasin

Maasin is a third-class municipality in the province of Iloilo. In a 2020 census, it has a total population of 38,461. It is 30 kilometers (19 miles) from Iloilo City. Politically, it is subdivided into 50 barangays.

Municipality of Mina

Mina is a fifth-class municipality in the province of Iloilo. In a 2020 census, it has a population of 24,042. It is 38 kilometers (24 miles) from Iloilo City and is politically subdivided into 22 barangays.

Municipality of Pototan

Pototan is a first-class municipality in the province of Iloilo. In a 2020 census, it has a population of 78,298 people. The town lies on the banks of the Suage River and is 30 kilometers (19 miles) from Iloilo City. Majorly an agricultural land, it is considered the Christmas Capital of Western Visayas because of its grandiose Christmas Festival of Lights.
