Just recently, the Iloilo City Government revealed that amidst the implementation of the ‘Traffic Discipline Zone, there were already 1,600 violations recorded. The Traffic Discipline Zone (TDZ) stretches along the 14 kilometer Senator Benigno Aquino Jr Avenue or commonly known as Diversion Road in Mandurriao.
“In one month of implementation of Traffic Discipline Zone, our assessment was that there were many violations committed. Our data recorded 1,600 plus apprehended violations in the area,” states Jeck Conlu, Head of the Public Safety Transportation and Management Office (PSTMO). Moreover, Conlu appealed to the general public to obey traffic rules and regulations at all times.
“At TDZ, both commuters and drivers are our focus for discipline. Our goal is to create new generations of law-abiding drivers and commuters in the city. Let us follow the laws for our safety and comfort,” adds Conlu.
It can be recalled that the traffic discipline zone will be implemented by the Land Transportation Office and the Highway Patrol Group. Among those that will be enforced include speed limit, anti-modified mufflers, helmet policy, no registration, illegal modification, proper loading and unloading, and other regulations stipulated on road traffic. It is also stated that vehicles that will pass along Diversion Road shall follow all traffic laws and ordinances stipulated in Republic Act 4236 known as the National Traffic Code.
