In a letter addressed to President Rodrigo Duterte, Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas appealed for the second tranche of Social Amelioration Program (SAP) assistance. It can be recalled that Iloilo City has transitioned to General Community Quarantine from approximately 45 days of Enhanced Community Quarantine.
“The economic and social impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic cannot be undermined. With Iloilo City under general community quarantine until May 30 and with no definite end in sight for the COVID-19 global pandemic, many of our constituents are still in need of any form of assistance to alleviate their plights,” excerpts from the letter signed by Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas addressed to President Rodrigo Duterte.
It can also be recalled that the city mayor appealed to the Department of Education to delay the opening of classes slated in August this year. The mayor expressed that, by far, there is still no vaccine against COVID, and resuming classes may expose students to the virus. It may be recalled that the majority of students are considered a vulnerable group and are advised to stay at home.
