In a social media post, Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas expresses his suggestion to the Department of Education, stressing that school building projects should be discontinued and, instead, funds should be diverted to improving the internet facilities of schools as the new normal calls for non-face to face education.
“I am just thinking aloud. Why don’t we stop all school building projects for DepEd for next year since there is no face to face learning due to the pandemic? Instead, DepEd should further improve internet facilities of the schools and the barangays, and purchase tablets for all the teachers and students both in public and private schools, then we can go on with distant learning safely,” states Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas.
“DepEd should also look for ways to help the private schools which are suffering right now. The assistance can come in terms of subsidies to the faculty in private schools and tablets for the pupils therein. If we are to heal we must heal as one,” he adds.
