Trenas: “We will revitalize our local economy”


Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas, in a Facebook post, revealed that he had a meeting with the governors of Region VI and tackled the impact of coronavirus to Western Visayas. Top leaders in the region undergone strategic planning for the accessible trading of goods and transportation of the workers from Bacolod to Iloilo and vice versa.

It can be recalled that, in Iloilo alone, economic losses amounted to Php 10 billion (from March 15 to April 30) as the province still battles the deadly pandemic. Moreover, here are industries and their estimated losses: tourism sector – Php 1.1 billion; business and trade industry – Php 4.8 billion; agricultural sector – Php 103 million; transport sector – Php 59.8 million for PUJ and Php 44.6 for PUB.

“Together, we will revitalize our local economy, strengthen health capacities, and initiate more ways to increase our economic resiliency by developing policy directions and synergize programs for our fast economic recovery. Together, we will move forward, and we will heal as one!” states Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas.

Moreover, the mayor is grateful for the Bayanihan Spirit of the Ilonggos in time of crisis.

“I genuinely appreciate the Bayanihan spirit of the Ilonggos as we help each other in this time of crisis. We appreciate the sacrifices and bravery of our hardworking frontliners, including the workers from the private and public sectors and the medical personnel who tirelessly rendered their service to the Ilonggo community, in ensuring the health and safety of everyone,” says Treñas.
