Only a few days left before the new year and two firework-related injuries were already reported. One incident is a four-year-old girl from Cagayan Valley. The four-year-old sustained burn injury from a ‘kwitis’. Another incident involved a 23-year-old male from Metro Manila.
It can be recalled that the Department of Interior and Local Government announced a zero-firecracker-injury target for the holiday season. Moreover, the DILG has appointed the Philippine National Police and the Bureau of Fire Protection to implement policies and regulate the use of firecrackers.
“Let’s continue monitoring and upholding the laws regarding firecrackers. All we want is for everyone to be safe from danger and safely celebrating Christmas and the New Year,” states Interior Secretary Eduardo Año, in an article by Philippine Star.
“If possible, avoid anything that can cause accidents. We can celebrate Christmas and New Year without putting our lives and limbs at risk,” announces Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo, in the same article.
