Water Rationing Iloilo

Water Rationing for Households in Iloilo: Seventy two thousand households from 180 barangays will benefit from the ‘Oplan Bulig Tubig sa Syudad’, an initiative of the local government to supplement the ongoing water shortage caused by drought.

“We have a tabletop with the Metro Pacific Iloilo Water and the South Balibago Waterworks, and we were able to establish the water flow for the full implementation of the water rationing,” states Neil Ravena, Head, General Services Office (GSO), in an article published by the Philippine News Agency (PNA).

Metro Pacific Iloilo Water will deliver water to barangays in Arevalo and Molo districts while South Balibago Waterworks will deliver to select areas in Jaro, La Paz, Lapuz, Mandurriao, and City Proper.

According to Ravena, about 500,000 liters is set to be delivered every day. Moreover, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) has been conducting briefings in barangays to prepare residents for the rationing.

“The water that will be provided in every barangay is dependent on their tanks. As mentioned by the mayor, we encouraged barangays to procure (tanks). We’ve been emphasizing to them that this is not just a one-shot delivery. It’s going to be every day in the next three months,” says CDRRMO officer Donna Magno.

The activity is on top of the ongoing water distribution spearheaded by both private sector and volunteer groups – Flo Water Resources Inc., Bombo Radyo Foundation Inc., ICAG Volunteer Fire Brigade, Federation Fire, and the Bureau of Fire.

Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas, in a social media post, expressed his gratitude: “We deeply appreciate the support of our partners, whose unwavering dedication has helped strengthen the resilience of our community,” he states.
