Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas, in an update, announced that the Western Visayas Sanitarium is ‘supposed’ to receive pregnant women who are found to be positive for coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
“For the information of everyone, the Sanitarium Hospital run by the DOH is support to receive positive pregnant women. I will have this investigated why it was not able to accept this patient who was instead placed in our quarantine facility,” states Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas, via Iloilo City Government social media page.
It may be recalled that an incident sparked controversy with a woman giving birth, unassisted, in a quarantine facility in Iloilo. The news of the incident circulated online and had netizens question the capability of the local government in handling this type of incident.
As a response, Mayor Treñas released Executive Order No. 160 designating temporary treatment and monitoring facilities and birthing facilities for pregnant women in Iloilo City.
“The Iloilo City Health Office shall endorse suspected and confirmed COVID-19 pregnant patients to Lapaz Maternity and Reproductive Center. With the risk of the virus to our pregnant women, we will make sure that they shall be assessed and treated thoroughly by our medical professionals. Maghalong guid kita. Batò Iloilo,” he states.
The Western Visayas Sanitarium is re-confirmed to be the hospital where COVID-19 positive women should be accommodated. It is located in Barangay Inangayan and Barangay Bolong, Oeste, Santa Barbara, Iloilo.
